Welcome,
My name is Mia Howell and I currently live in the Hood River, Oregon and I am a Graphic Watercolor Artist. My paintings emphasize line, shape, and color to portray a unique and vibrant landscape. All of my paintings are hand drawn from photos and carefully inlaid with tape and painted with bright watercolors and gauche. In utilizing these techniques in my paintings I can create contrasting white lines that provide a synergy of balance and unity.
In my life I have been fortunate to have lived in some of the most visually inspiring places, which is why I am compelled to paint these magnificent landscapes. I was born in Yuba City, California and grew up in the Sierra Mountain Range in Squaw Valley. I then moved to Vermont to attend a ski academy at Green Mountain Valley School. Later, I attended and ski raced for Middlebury College where I graduated with honors in Studio Art and a minor in Teacher Education. While at Middlebury College I was fortunate to be chosen for a commission by the college to paint their Middlebury College Poster, it was a privilege and honor for me. Later in my artistic career, I have had the wonderful opportunity to complete multiple watercolor landscapes per request by various organizations and individuals, including Green Mountain Valley School.
In addition to art, I am an educator and I believe we need to contribute to our childrens artistic side which is why I participate in the local Artist in Resident program with the Columbia Gorge Arts in Education organization www.cgaie.org and substitute teach for the Hood River County School District.
Our world has limitless inspirations to paint. I enjoy painting special and meaningful places for other people. If you have a memorable vista, place or building image that you would like captured by my style of creativity, please contact me so we can discuss your project.

Sincerely,
